| Second Three-page Assignment War Due: 4:00 PM October 17, 2002 (NO late papers will be accepted.) If you email the paper then make sure that you turn in a hard copy on the following class meeting. The email time must also be no later than 4:00 PM October 17, 2002. I have described war as a tool. In what manner and to what extent is war a tool of the nation-state? Whether or not you believe it is a legitimate tool, pick some thesis that describes some aspect of how the nation-state uses war as a tool. Make sure to pick a coherent and defendable thesis. This thesis must describe some aspect of war and its relationship to the nation-state. War has changed dramatically throughout history. Do not include a summary of this change. I am only interested in the role of war and the nation-state. Make sure to include in your discussion some input from Machiavelli, Rourke, Sun Tzu, and a political science article you find related to your thesis. This is a political science class not a history class, not a business class, etc. You must find a political science thesis and your extra source must be a political science source. Make sure to ask yourself “how is this a political question?” Hint: I find it helpful to avoid writing summaries to plan on writing three extra pages than is required. Then I delete the first three pages written. So if you think that this would work for you write six pages then delete the first three and turn in the last three.
